“Might Be Her Last Year”: Grand Slam Champion and Good Friend Speculates Serena Williams Retirement Date
Serena Williams is indisputably one of the greatest tennis players of all time. However, she is now 39 years old, and thus, speculations about her retirement have seemingly grown in number. Accordingly, her good friend and former doubles specialist Rennae Stubbs also entered the subject.
In conversation with Tennis One, the former Australian professional gave a disclaimer that it is only a speculation. Even so, she provided a probability that Serena fans would not like to hear.

Rennae Stubbs thinks Serena Williams might not play in 2022
Firstly, the former doubles No.1 clarified that she never had any conversation with Serena Williams about her retirement. But Rennae went on to make a shocking but understandable theory.
“I think this might be her last year,” Rennae said. “I think she really wants to try and put everything into it this year.”
Furthermore, the Australian backed her story with some fair reasons. She also added that she would not expect Serena to show up in more tournaments.
“I just don’t see her playing a lot more, and one of the reasons is that she has Olympia. I think she is ready to get on with the rest of her life,” Rennae said.
However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion is one Slam short of equaling Margaret Court’s all-time most major titles record. Although Rennae agreed that #24 continues to keep Serena tied to tennis, she believes that the tennis queen could move on.
“I think she is also maybe at a point where it is finally not going to actually define her, Rennae added. “And I think she is okay with that.”
Conclusively, the four-time Grand Slam doubles champion expressed her desire to move past Margaret Court. According to her, the record always belonged to the German legend Steffi Graf.

Which tournament will Serena play next?
Despite speculations every year, Serena continues to grace the court and inspire millions with her passion. The American, who started her 2021 campaign at the Australian Open, has begun the French Open 2021 preparations.
Co-incidentally, Williams recently reassured her fans that she is working hard for her clay-court swing. The video message clarified that tennis still is not over for the champion.
