Race Across the World fans, it’s time for the countdown to begin as the BBC has confirmed the series three launch date, and it’s just around the corner.

A new batch of teams of two will be racing between worldwide destinations without flying or smartphones on a tight budget.

And we’ve finally got our first look at the cast, consisting of Monique and her dad Ladi, best friends Tricia and Cathie, and Claudia and her dad Kevin.

Husband-wife duo Zainib and Mobeen, and brothers Marc and Michael complete the line-up.

When does Race Across the World series 3 air?

As well as dropping a first look at the cast, the BBC have officially confirmed the return date, and there’s really not long to go.

Race Across the World season three will hit our screens on Wednesday, March 22 at 9pm.

The third instalment, which will air on BBC One for the first time, will be the most extreme to date when the five pairs of travellers will have to race across an entire continent – ocean to ocean.

Starting out at the very edge of the Pacific in Vancouver, the teams will travel over 16,000 kilometres, across six time zones, all at ground level to the finish line in North America’s most easterly city, St John’s Newfoundland.

Beginning their journey in Canada the pairs will once again have no mobile phones, no internet access, no credit cards and will only have the cash equivalent of the airfare to their final destination.

In order to win the £20,000 cash prize, the teams will race to get to St John’s Newfoundland first, relying on the kindness of strangers, travel skills and ingenuity.

This comes after a trailer showing the new series dropped last week, with viewers being reminded that this is certainly ‘no holiday’ as one contestant is seen crying while declaring: ‘I don’t want to do this.’

Safe to say this kind of quest is not for the faint hearted, but which pair will make it through the final hurdle?
