Malala Yousafzai praised for ‘excellent’ response after Jimmy Kimmel randomly asks for her take on Harry Styles’ spitgate drama at Oscars-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

Oscars viewers have commended Malala Yousafzai’s quick-thinking response after Jimmy Kimmel jokingly asked for her take on the Don’t Worry Darling spitgate drama.

In case you somehow managed to forget, the psychological thriller was plagued with rumors of an onset feud between director Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh last summer, which culminated in an awkward red carpet at the Venice film festival.

While all eyes were on the cast, footage from the prestigious event seemed to show Harry Styles ‘spitting’ on Chris Pine as they took their seats – leading to internet sleuths spending hours inspecting the clips from all angles.

Although everyone involved has since insisted that no spitting took place, Jimmy couldn’t help but reflect on the drama during Sunday’s star-studded ceremony, and decided to approach Malala for her thoughts.

Spotting the human rights activists in the crown during a Q&A segment, the presenter quipped: ’Great to have you here, congratulations on your movie. This question is from Joanne from Brooklyn, New York…

‘She asks: “Your work on human rights and education for women and children is an inspiration.

‘“As the youngest Nobel prize winner in history, I was wondering, do you think Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?”’

As the audience laughed at the comment, Malala refrained from offering up her opinion on the infamous scandal.

Taking a beat, she politely replied: ‘I only talk about peace.’

‘You know what, that’s why you’re Malala and no one else is,’ the host said, before quickly moving on.

However, many watching the action from home were less than impressed by the scenes, questioning why Jimmy would ask the Nobel Prize winner’s thoughts on such a trivial topic.

Heaping praise on Malala’s reply, a viewer wrote: ‘That wasn’t funny in the least. Excellent answer.’

‘Omg. Malala looked so uncomfortable with him and that joke…’ a follower said. ‘Get that man outta here #Oscars [sic].’

‘Malala, an actual hero, showed up to the Oscars looking absolutely beautiful btw and had to deal with this guy,’ one fumed.

Another agreed: ‘Not a good question, but beautifully answered by Malala.’

As a commenter added: ‘This was so cringe. Malala deserves better.’

Elsewhere in the night, Jimmy broached the topic of last year’s infamous Oscars slap – after Will Smith stormed on stage to hit Chris Rock, over a joke he made about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.

The comedian did warn that he would be drawing attention to the incident during the night, and he wasn’t wrong, mentioning it in his opening monologue.
