Oscar viewers found themselves wincing during Hugh Grant and Ashely Graham’s awkward red carpet interaction.

The Four Weddings and a Funeral actor, 62, was among the stars who attended the annual Hollywood bash, which was hosted by comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel.

However, his interview with the 34-year-old supermodel was branded ‘the most awkward moment’ since Will Smith infamously slapped Chris Rock for a joke the comedian made about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair at last year’s Academy Awards.

The Notting Hill star struggled to hide his disinterest and summed up most of his answers in three words or less.

‘What was it like to be in Glass Onion? How fun is it to shoot something like that?’ Ashley enthusiastically began.

‘Well I’m barely in it, I was in it for about three seconds,’ Hugh quipped.

Fans slammed the actor for ‘dismissing’ Ashley (Picture: ABC)

Trying her hardest to push through, Ashley asked the Oscar’s veteran: ‘What are you wearing?

‘My suit,’ Hugh simply said.

Yikes.

Once the conversation (we use that word loosely) was over, Hugh appeared to roll his eyes, which led viewers to praise Ashley’s professionalism.

Safe to say the head-scratching encounter sparked a divide online, with one person tweeting: ‘Why was Hugh grant so rude?? Shout out to Ashley for holding up the conversation. / getting through that.’

Ok, Hugh Grant be nice to Ashley Grant, he’s giving her nothing, I don’t like that, he’s being shady & making her work way too hard

Why are people so keen on defending Hugh Grant in that Ashley Graham interview? He was rude and at the very least difficult.

It’s the Oscars. Play along or move on. He saw she was struggling and went for the jugular — totally unnecessary.

Hugh Grant and Ashley Graham’s red carpet exchange about “Vanity Fair ” (he was talking about the 1848 novel about shallow society, she thought he was referring to the 2023 magazine after party) is my favourite #Oscars moment of all time.

Hugh Grant just gave the most dismissive interview I’ve ever seen, it was amazing. I’m paraphrasing but: “I LOVED Glass Onion, didn’t you love being in that?” “Well I was in it for about three seconds.” “But you showed up and had fun!” “Yeah, not really.” pic.twitter.com/uMRrkNk1qQ

I love that hugh grant just described the whole oscar spectacle as “a vanity fair” and the presenter thought he meant the vanity fair oscar party. #Oscars

‘I’m wearing …my suit.’ Hugh Grant – having absolutely 0 of it and I love him. pic.twitter.com/rvduz9K4M5

‘Do you think Hugh Grant know his rude red carpet interview went viral yet,’ another added.

While some viewers were left seething, others tried to make light of the moment.
