Sebastian Vettel Reveals ‘Common Passion’ Connects Himself and Lewis Hamilton in F1

Over the past decade, F1 has been all about 2 astonishing drivers; Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.

While Vettel rocketed to 4 championship titles in 4 seasons, Hamilton subsequently took over the dominion by overlapping the German’s mountainous record, churning 6 titles out of just 7 seasons. Considering the numbers, one can definitely say that they’ve enjoyed a monumental career in F1 so far.

Interestingly, almost 15 years have gone by, and the two drivers are still continuing to be a part of the F1 grid. What’s more, the duo has delivered a handful of nail-biting battles against each other, with some turning ugly as well, that threatened to intensify their rivalry.

And despite such on-track clashes, Vettel and Hamilton have managed to sustain their healthy off-track relationship, which has further bolstered in the past couple of seasons.

The Aston Martin driver opened up that it is the common passion for racing that is keeping himself and the 7-time world champion maintain a strong tie.

Vettel on his relationship with Lewis Hamilton

Speaking to The Guardian, Vettel opened up about his relationship with his long-term racing colleague, Hamilton.

Me and Lewis will always have that history. We have a common passion that connects us,” Vettel said. “Why am I doing it? Because I love it (racing),” he added. “Because I still want to prove to myself that I can do what I want to do, what I used to do, and in a way that I am happy with.”

It hasn’t been a straightforward journey in the last couple of seasons for Vettel, having secured a measly 33 points out of the last 19 races.

And yet, the German is showing no signs of taking a break or even opting for retirement. Such has been the amount of passion that is driving the Aston Martin driver.

I want to be at the front: Vettel

It has been a tough start for Vettel and his newly developed team, Aston Martin, so far. And considering how the rivals have improvised from last season, things are looking tough for the British team to make a comeback. But, despite such negatives haunting the team’s future, Vettel is still keeping his target on the title.

In the big picture the target is quite clear,” he said. “I want to be at the front of the grid. Because I have been there so many times and I have learned to enjoy it.

Aston Martin will have one golden opportunity heading toward them which could potentially decide their fate in F1. They need to build a competitive car for the 2022 season, which will witness one of the biggest regulation changes in the sport’s history.

Hence, how far are Aston Martin going to succeed in this task? Will Vettel finally manage to re-kindle his title spree that once wreaked havoc over the grid in the early 2010s? Only time will tell.
