Channel 4’s The Dog Academy had their hands full on Thursday night’s episode as they tackled one dog’s phobia of windscreen wipers.
The show follows a group of experts – Victoria Stillwell, Kamal Fernandez, Adam Daines, Nanci Creedon, Jo Pay and Sean Brown – as they navigate difficult dogs and examine each pet and their owners to discover the root of the issue.
An elderly couple called on the experts to help them with a ‘naughty’ pooch that struggled to stop barking when driving in the car in rainy weather.
On hearing the windscreen wipers start up, the canine went ballistic and repeatedly barked to the point of exhaustion.
In their late 70s and 80s, the desperate couple admitted they wouldn’t be able to keep Maya if the experts weren’t able to find a cure as she was obstructing their ability to live the rest of their lives.
Unable to travel int he car with their pet, they have been held back by the dog’s antics and admitted they feared for their lives while driving as Maya’s unpredictable outbursts led to the couple getting a fright while being the wheel.
‘It frightens me that we’ll be driving along and it’s all quiet and suddenly oh!,’ the female dog owner explained.
She continued sharing: ‘It’s a big shock for us. I’m frightened it’s going to kill him’.
Her male counterpart jumped in with: ‘I’ve worked all my life and retired when I was 65 which was great and then we decided to go on holiday and we drove to Portugal in the caravan.

‘I supposed I’d been a bit stressed out and on the Saturday morning I had a heart attack. I flat-lined’.
His wife revealed: ‘If he happened to die because of Maya well I don’t know how I would cope’.
‘I don’t need the stress, I really don’t because I just can’t take it,’ he took over.
After observation and some tests, the experts discovered the dog was in fact afraid of loud noises as she had sensitive hearing.
