Epic Games vs. Apple: Files Suggest Xbox Hasn’t Ruled Out Bringing Its Services to PlayStation and Nintendo
The legal battle between Epic Games and Apple has just started, and it’s poised to be a major turning point in the gaming industry. One of the documents filed for it includes e-mails from Epic Games CEO, Todd Sweeney to Xbox Chief Phil Spencer. These e-mails clearly showcase the popular console manufacturer’s interest to bring Project xCloud to PlayStation and Nintendo devices.

The conversations between them showcase the Microsoft-owned brand’s initiative to bring their services to other devices. So far, the service has allowed players on PC, Android, and even iOS to play Xbox games with the help of cloud gaming. But with devices like Nintendo Switch and the PS5, Cloud gaming would become accessible to everyone.
These conversations were noticed by ResetEra in the documents filed by the company. The email sent on August 2020 shed light on the situation after Sweeney talked about Phil’s wishes to bring xCloud on other consoles.
“I did want to just let you know that I have your point on xCloud on other consoles (haven’t given up)”
No Live Gold for free multiplayer games?
Other than that, Sweeney also talked about removing subscription requirements for free multiplayer games. Fans who want to play multiplayer on the console need Xbox Live Gold. Currently, most popular games are free. These include Fortnite, Warzone, and many more. Making this service free could drastically increase the player base for these titles.
It’s interesting to see that Phil Spencer and his company want to bring these services to other devices. They have constantly said that they haven’t thought about doing it, but these conversations clearly suggest that they might want to control that market.
It hasn’t even been that long since the court battle started, and these leaked documents are already breaking the industry. Recently, some files even showed leaked potential skins for superstars like Ariana Grande, LeBron James, and many more. But this doesn’t seem to be the end, and players can expect more bombs to drop soon.
