Andy Murray Reveals How the Lockdown Helped Him Grow as a Father

Former World No.1 Andy Murray hasn’t been in great form since his return to the court after going through a hip surgery three years ago. Interestingly, he hasn’t played many matches on tour either and missed many of them lately due to the coronavirus pandemic. He last played at the Rotterdam Open 2021 where he lost to Andrey Rublev in the pre-quarters.

In a recent interview, Andy Murray revealed that the lockdown hasn’t been that bad for him. Even though he missed a lot of matches because of it, he believes that he got to spend a lot of time with his children during the lockdown.

“I got to see my kids growing up in the last couple of years and I’ve spent loads of time around them and got to build great relationships with them, which I wouldn’t have had the chance to do otherwise… In some ways, that’s been really the positive thing that’s come out of this,” said Murray in the interview.

Murray and his wife Kim Sears have four children. They recently welcomed their fourth child in March 2021. As a result, Murray really found this time great to build good relationships with all his children. He feels that the lockdown really turned out to be a positive thing for him.

The British player revealed how he spent some quality time with his children during the lockdown. He stated that he built some castles out of the cardboard pieces which his children loved. However, he felt that the castles looked absolutely terrible.

“I was building castles out of cardboard boxes, which the kids loved but they looked terrible,” added the 3-time Grand Slam winner.

It’s time for the clay-court season and Murray will surely be returning to the court soon. Even though he didn’t play the Monte Caro Masters 2021 and is not even playing at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021, he’ll like to train himself on clay before the French Open 2021. Will Murray be able to succeed in pairs this year?
