SAS: Who Dares Wins star Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham has spoken out after Ant Middleton was axed from the series, explaining he’s worked with his replacement for many years.

The former soldier was axed from the Channel 4 series in the UK, but is still part of the Australian version.

While his replacement hasn’t officially been announced, Mark confirmed that they have been chosen.

The 59-year-old addressed his colleague’s departure from the show, saying on Good Morning Britain: ‘He’s going to stay part of it out in Australia, and the team works great together.

‘It’s sad to see him go from the UK version but the show is bigger than all of us. The new guy coming in, which I won’t give his name away yet because I don’t think they’ve released it but if they have – I’ve worked with him over many, many years.’

‘We’ll miss Ant but we’re still working together out here and it’s going really well,’ he added.

Asked if the next series is the most difficult yet, Mark agreed, adding: ‘Every time we do it, we analyse what we did and change it up, we make it more and more difficult to get the best out of the people and out of the show.’

I’t’s absolutely brutal, it’s brilliant,’ he added.

Ant, 40, was dropped from SAS: Who Dares Wins in the UK over his ‘personal conduct.’

Channel 4 announced that it had cut all ties from Ant, with a spokesperson telling Metro.co.uk in a statement: ’Ant Middleton will not be taking part in future series of SAS: Who Dares Wins.

‘Following a number of discussions Channel 4 and Minnow Films have had with him in relation to his personal conduct it has become clear that our views and values are not aligned and we will not be working with him again.’

Ant later said he had walked away from the show, telling The Sun: ‘I have decided to walk away from it, it is clear Channel 4 and I have fallen out over it and that is regretful.

‘I have butted heads with some of the team but ultimately it is out of a passion for what I wanted to do and that’s make the best show possible.’

He added on Instagram: ‘Hi guys, I’ve got some news which is that after 5 incredible years I’ve decided it’s time to move on from SAS Who Dares Wins UK.

‘Big respect to my fellow DS – it’s been a journey I’ll never forget. Thanks to everyone that took part and made the show what it is. Really excited about the future and what’s coming this year. Stay positive.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. SAS: Who Dares Wins returns to Channel 4 later this year.
