Rickie Fowler – ‘Fine Line Between Playing Mediocre Golf and Good Golf’

Rickie Fowler is competing at the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow. A lot of people are expecting Fowler to achieve a strong finish at this tournament, considering the fact that he won his maiden tour title at this venue back in 2012. Furthermore, 32-year-old Fowler thinks there’s only a fine margin between winning and losing when it comes to golf. 

Fowler does not back down from acknowledging that he’s enduring a form slump at the moment. It’s been quite a while since he won a PGA Tour event, and the Oklahoma State alum often gets asked about it. 

“It’s such a fine line between playing mediocre golf and good golf, or mediocre could be even bad. It’s just a fine line out here, as far as you know, what looks decent, and then versus, you know, playing proper golf,” Fowler told the media at Wells Fargo Championship. 

“Though I know, it’s close. I think some of it was, you know, spending a lot of time working on the swing, which needed to be done, but probably spent a little bit too long of time focusing and worrying about certain things. And the last few months has just been, you know, going out and playing just a bit more golf instead of playing golf swings,” he added. 

It is all about holding on to the momentum and applying it to the game. A lot of it is mental, and Rickie Fowler is striving hard to get back into winning ways. A good finish at the Wells Fargo Championship will certainly help the cause. 

Rickie Fowler delivered a strong performance in Round 1

Rickie Fowler enjoyed a great opening round at Quail Hollow on Thursday. He made four birdies and 11 pars en route to making a 1-under 70. While this score did not get him the first spot on the leaderboard, it was a good start to what seems like a promising tournament for Fowler. 

In retrospect, Fowler opened with a 6-under 66 in the par-72 course during his title-winning run in 2012. While he was unable to register a low score this year, Fowler is still one of the favorites to pose a tough challenge in the remaining three rounds. 

Rickie Fowler has garnered valuable experience at the Quail Hollow Club which would prove useful at crunch moments. He still has a long way to go in terms of regaining his form, but the five-time PGA Tour winner is destined to bounce back.
