Robert Irwin explained his fascination with gravestones and memorials – and it’s not what you might think.

The son of the late Steve Irwin opened up about a rather unusual hobby that had him snapping pictures at multiple graveyards.

Despite his family suffering a major tragedy when he was just two years old, the now 19-year-old zookeeper showed he was taking a light-hearted approach to death on Instagram.

Posing alongside a variety of mausoleums and gravestones, the famous offspring admitted he was looking for dead people with the same name as him.

He captioned his collection of fellow monikers: ‘Roberts of the world… a thread [sic].’

In the gallery, Robert was pictured standing in front of a statue that bared his first name as well as an airport sign in memorandum of a different Robert.

Another clip showed him in the car driving towards a road that had the same name as him and next he snapped his feet standing on top of a stone that had his full name etched into it.

Towards the end of his collection, he uploaded a picture of a headstone that was dedicated to someone with his entire name as well as the dead individual’s spouse.

Fans were quick to comment on his strange activity with one joking: ‘ rip robert it’s almost like he’s still with us [sic].’

The star posted pictures of headstones on his social media (Picture: Instagram/robertirwinphotography)

Another said: ‘Look guys. It’s Robert at Robert on Robert road visiting Roberts grave [sic].’

‘It’s just a really, really, really good name! Just sayin’ [sic],’ was another social media user’s response to the star’s latest post.

Robert’s late father Steve died on September 4, 2006, when he was just 44.

The Crocodile Hunter was pierced in the chest by a stingray barb during filming for one of his wildlife documentaries in Queensland, Australia.

Irwin left behind his wife Terri, Robert and his daughter Bindi – who was eight at the time of his death.

Bindi followed in her father’s footsteps and starred in many episodes of a TV show about wildlife and conservation.

Now 24, the actress is a mother to a baby girl Grace Warrior with her husband Chandler Powell.
