The always controversial David Jaffe has criticised the graphics in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom but admitted the game is not ‘bad.’

Although he’s the co-creator of both God Of War and Twisted Metal, David Jaffe hasn’t made a new video game in six years and is no longer affiliated with Sony, instead spending most of his days streaming and opining on the internet.

That’s led to him commenting on Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, which he’s described as ‘pretty bland and old looking.’

It’s not clear that he’s played the game but according to him, ‘given how important visuals seem to be to others, it seemed worth discussing.’

Most of that discussion on Twitter was unimpressed by his comments, with many stating that they’d rather play Zelda games than God Of War.

‘If they had to choose, 90% of gamers would prefer to play Zelda rather than any God Of War, Sony, and Xbox production,’ said Reeler.

‘I bought God Of War and Tears Of The Kingdom, I’ve already had way more fun with Tears Of The Kingdom. I’d argue I had more fun with Breath Of The Wild than God Of War,’ said Weston Weems.

‘I like realistic graphics, etc. Perhaps what should be focused on here is what Nintendo devs did with the hardware at hand.’

I don’t care about realism in games. And I’m not saying the game is bad; to me, gameplay is always the main (and often times) only thing I care about. But this game is pretty bland and old looking IMO and given how important visuals seem to be to others, it seemed worth discussing. https://t.co/adggL7JJsp

Some people did agree with Jaffe though, with RPGfan saying: ‘I completely agree. It seems Nintendo get a pass and it’s not fair. Game is great, but full of flickering, jaggies, blurred textures… You name it.’

In reality, although there have been concerns about performance, there have been very few complaints about the actual visuals, so it’s unclear what Jaffe’s comments were inspired by.

Jaffe still has contacts in the industry and occasionally reveals what he claims to be insider information, with recent talk of a Bloodborne remaster or remake. He’s more famous, though, for outbursts such as the time when he blamed Phil Spencer for the delay of Starfield.
