Gossip Girl reboot: Everything you need to know about the new cast and their characters
Hey Upper East Siders! As many Gossip Girl fans know, the countdown is on as we prepare to meet the new group of teens living the most scandalous lives as part of Manhattan’s elite.
Yep, the Gossip Girl reboot is just weeks away and we’re finally starting to learn more about the characters who will be replacing the likes of Dan Humphrey, Blair Waldorf, and Serena van der Woodsen as our new obsessions.
Coming to HBO Max in July, the series is very much within the same universe that saw (spoiler alert) Dan unmasked as the iconic blogger Gossip Girl.
In fact, things pick off eight years after that ontroversial reveal as we get to meet an even more tech-savvy gang of privileged Constance Billard and St Jude’s students.
This stylish lot are now the ones calling the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art home and here’s what we know about them so far.
Who is in the cast of the Gossip Girl reboot?
Whitney Peak as Zoya Lott
The Ugandan-Canadian actor is known for her parts in Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as well as Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game and Apple TV’s Home Before Dark.
Her character is basically the new Dan because Zoya will be our somewhat relatable tour guide as we enter this oh-so-glam world.
Or perhaps she might end up being more like Little J…
Emily Alyn Lind as Audrey Hope
The Brooklyn native previously starred in Revenge and Code Black, while her Instagram reveals she’s also a singer (could this skill end up being part of the series?!)
Her character seems a lot like the new Blair due to the fact she’s a wealthy student whose mother is an athleisure designer.
Oh, and the fact she’s ‘been in a long-term relationship [with Aki] and is beginning to wonder what more could be out there.’
Thomas Doherty as Maximus ‘Max’ Wolfe
Scottish actor and musician Thomas has previously had roles in Hulu’s High Fidelity, Disney’s Descendants, and HBO’s Catherine the Great.
His character Max is a playboy that’s always decked out in Gucci and Bode, loves to party, and is openly pansexual.
Max seems similar to Chuck Bass, especially as the role appears to hark back to the original book series by Cecily von Ziegesar in which Chuck is gay.
Savannah Smith as Monet de Haan
This is Savannah’s first gig after studying acting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and she’s also a singer-songwriter to boot.
With her It-girl energy, stunning lewks, and Dutch surname, fans can’t help but think her character Monet might be the new Serena.
Her one-word description was ‘power’ so we get the vibe she could be the new Queen Bee.
Jordan Alexander as Julien Calloway
Jordan previously starred in TV series Scared Lies, as well as Please Kill Mr. Know It All and Unbury the Biscuit
She’s super active on social media, using her platform to advocate for topics such as Black Lives Matter and Trans rights.
Meanwhile, her character on the show is a teen influencer – and BFFs with Audrey.
Eli Brown as Otto ‘Obie’ Bergmann IV
Eli just starred in the Pretty Little Liars spin-off series, The Perfectionists, so he was already in the teen mindset.
With a name like Otto Bergmann IV, one would assume his character will exude privilege like Chuck did in the OG series.
However, he might surprise us all seeing as his character has been described as a bit of a do-gooder who ‘comes from a very wealthy family and he’s a humanitarian.’
Zión Moreno as Luna La
The Mexican-American actress has starred in TNT’s Claws and also played a trans high schooler in Control Z.
The trans actress has chosen not to answer when asked whether she is playing another trans teen, but what she will be doing is rocking a whole load of stylish looks.
Luna’s one-word bio is Style so she could be an aspiring designer like Jenny Humphrey!
Tavi Gevinson as Kate Keller
Superstar blogger turned actress Tavi Gevinson will certainly know all about the style side of things for the show seeing as she launched her successful fashion blog, Style Rookie, aged 12.
Since focusing on acting she’s starred in Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens, CBS’s reboot of The Twilight Zone and This is our youth on Broadway.
Her character Kate’s one-word bio is ‘ambition’ so we can’t wait to find out what she’s trying to achieve.
Evan Mock as Akeno ‘Aki’ Menzies
The model probably looks very familiar thanks to his runway appearances for the likes of Louis Vuitton, while he’s been spotted on the FROW for designers including Off-White, Dior, Loewe, and Lanvin.
However, this is the Hawaiian model/skater/surfer’s first official acting credit.
His character Aki’s one-word bio is ‘innocence’ and we’ll just have to wait and see what that’s about.
Kristen Bell as Gossip Girl (narrator)
There might have been a riot if Kristen Bell didn’t return as the voice of GG, with the actress once again narrating all the drama.
Since she made a cameo in the OG series, we can only hope she makes an appearance in the reboot too.
When is the Gossip Girl reboot release date?
Spotted: Everyone eagerly anticipating the Gossip Girl release date.
We know it’s coming in July but the official date is yet to be revealed. We’re sure GG will be spilling that tea soon enough.
Is there a trailer for the Gossip Girl reboot?
Not yet, Upper East Siders. However, there has been plenty of teaser pictures and footage being shared online by the official social media pages for the show and HBO Max.
We’ll be sure to update you all once it finally lands online. XOXO.
The Gossip Girl reboot will premiere on HBO Max in July.
