Summer is here and that means only one thing to music lovers – it’s festival season.

With Glastonbury festival taking place this week, more than 200,000 festival goers are getting ready to head to Worthy Farm for a weekend of music.

Elton John, Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses take the top headline slots with performances from the likes of Lizzo, Lana Del Rey, and Queens Of The Stone Age taking place across the festival.

Whatever type of music you’re into – from death metal to dubstep – music festivals both in the UK and throughout Europe attract thousands of people looking for a weekend of fun in the sun while watching your favourite bands.

But with the ongoing cost of living crisis, what you pay for a festival ticket is more important than ever as it prices many out of attending.

New data from Iglu Cruise has revealed the most expensive music festival taking place in the UK this year – and it might surprise you what comes out on top.

Here’s what they found:

Which UK music festival is the most expensive?

At £370, the most expensive music festival in the UK is the Oxford Lieder Festival in Oxford.

The festival is one of the UK’s biggest classical music festivals and has been running for more than 20 years.

Iglu Cruise looked at the price of a full adult weekend ticket to list the top 10 festivals from most expensive to least expensive.

Glastonbury is the second most expensive festival in the UK, with an adult weekend ticket costing £335 in 2023.

With a capacity of 210,000 people, Glastonbury is also the largest festival in the UK and it is notoriously difficult to bag yourself tickets.

Download Festival in Leicestershire will cost £300 for an adult weekend ticket. The festival is the biggest rock festival in the UK, with Metallica, Bring Me The Horizon and Slipknot headlining in 2023.

For £286, Latitude Festival is the next most expensive festival. Founded in 2006, the festival in Suffolk has seen artists such as Mumford & Sons, The Killers, Lana Del Rey and George Ezra headline the stages.

Also at £286 a ticket are Reading and Leeds Festivals. The festivals take place simultaneously in Leeds and Reading during the Bank Holiday weekend in August, with artists usually playing at both festivals on different days during the weekend.

Other festivals included on the list as the most expensive music festivals in the UK include Boomtown, which costs £250 a ticket, Isle of Wight Festival at £225, and Camp Bestival at £220.

At the bottom end of the list was Cheshire festival Creamfields with a weekend ticket setting attendees back £215, and Green Man Festival in South Wales at £210.

However, not all festivals cost a fortune to attend. With the cost of living crisis affecting millions in the UK, many music fans are searching for cheaper alternatives, with a number of free festivals taking place across the UK.

Global Supply Director, Dave Mills from Iglu Cruise said: ‘Festival season is once again returning to the UK. However, you don’t necessarily need to break the bank to enjoy live music this summer.

‘Up and down the country there are festivals that range in price, making live music accessible for everyone to enjoy.’

Some free festivals include Africa Oye in Liverpool, Cardiff Mela in Cardiff, and Festival Too in Norfolk.
