Lydia says summer isn’t just for bright pastel and neon colours, you can wear blacklydiajanetomlinson/TikTok

Lydia Tomlinson shared her list in a TikTok video online.

She said: “Outdated style rules that you need to ditch right now.”

Starting off with where you’re shopping and how much you are spending.

Lydia says: “The first is that you should always spend a lot of money investing in basics.”

“Actually I have had this top and this skirt for years and years and they’re both from the high street.”

You may think that expensive brands only ever sell the best quality but if you check their labels you may find that it is not the case.

Lydia said: “Instead when you’re shopping for your basics don’t look at the brand but the fabric composition.”

The fashion fan also said ditch the black and navy rule.

She said: “Next is that black and navy should never be worn together, I think this is wholly untrue.”

“To me this is one of the most chic colour combinations,” she added.

Lydia says summer isn’t just for bright pastel and neon colours.

She said: “Also don’t be afraid of wearing dark colours in summer.”

“A lot of people take that as a style rule but I think dark colours look so chi in the warmer months.”

The fashion fan also said don’t bother matching all your leather.

She said: “The next outdated fashion rule is that you should match all of your leather.”

“You definitely don’t need to match your bag to your belt and shoes anymore or your watch either,” she concluded.

“This can actually feel a little bit too fixed and contrived.”

Lastly you don’t have to wear a belt with every pair of trousers that can hold one.

Lydia said: “Another old fashion rule is that you always need a belt when you’ve got belt loops.”

“You can see here that I have removed the belt and gone for a different coloured bag instead.”

She suggested “Or if you wanted to you could still match some of your leathers to give it a more cohesive feel but just make sure you match them all together.”
