5 Times Floyd Mayweather Dismantled Bigger Opponents

The Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul bout has taken center stage in the sport. While Mayweather is the clear favorite for the bout, the only aspect in question has been his ability to cope with the bigger opponent. So we look at five times Mayweather beat a bigger opponent.

Paul goes into the bout with a 30-pound weight advantage and a 6-inch height difference. Despite this, experts have suggested Mayweather will beat the YouTuber when they meet on June 6. So, does his record prove their point?

5 bigger fighters Floyd Mayweather beat

1. Oscar De La Hoya: One of the biggest fighters Mayweather ever faced was his high-profile bout against multi-weight world champion Oscar De La Hoya. The ‘Golden Boy’ came into the bout 4 pounds heavier and at 5’11” with a reach of 73 inches.

This was 3 inches taller than Mayweather, and an inch longer reach. Combine that with the weight difference, and Mayweather was easily the smaller fighter. Despite this, he won an impressive split decision victory over De La Hoya.

2. Conor McGregor: Mayweather’s last professional bout also saw him face a bigger opponent. UFC superstar Conor McGregor made his debut in the bout against ‘Money Mayweather.’

He came in at 5’9” and had a reach of 74 inches. Moreover, McGregor weighed in at 153 lbs.

This was 4 pounds heavier than ‘TBE’ and an inch difference in height and weight. Despite this, Mayweather showed his class and dismantled McGregor in the tenth round via a TKO.

3. Canelo Alvarez: Current P4P star Canelo Alvarez was a much closer match-up for Mayweather. The two fought in a high-profile bout back in 2013, and the fight was at a catch-weight to accommodate Alvarez, who fought in a higher weight class.

Therefore, although there was only a 2-pound weight difference in the weigh-in, fight night would have been a very different story. Despite this, Mayweather gave Alvarez a boxing lesson and knocked him out in the seventh round.

4. Robert Guerrero: Another fighter who was bigger than ‘TBE’ was American Robert Guerrero. The Southpaw came in at 5’9”, which was one inch taller than Mayweather. Moreover, he was also a pound heavier than the legendary boxer. Despite this, Mayweather made light work of the fight and won a unanimous decision.

5. Philip Ndou: Another fighter who was marginally bigger than Floyd Mayweather was Philip Ndou. He fought the legendary boxer in 2003 and came in at 5’10 ½ inches, which is almost three inches taller than Mayweather. However, Mayweather showed his class and won via a seventh-round TKO.

What do you make of these fights when Floyd Mayweather faced bigger opposition? Do you think it will be more of the same against Logan Paul?
