Many Sir Elton John fans were left battled as Brandon Flowers joined him on stage at Glastonbury.

The Rocket Man legend had promised four special guests for his massive Pyramid Stage headline slot, and while he chose to highlight three younger stars, that left one spot left for something special.

The rumour mill was running rampant with fans predicting everyone from Dua Lipa and Sir Paul McCartney to Taron Egerton and Britney Spears.

Sir Elton did deliver a Tiny Dancer duet, but rather than Britney joining him for their Hold Me Closer collaboration, The Killers frontman Brandon came out to perform the original song.

There was a cheer as he came out on stage, but his suit choice meant viewers just couldn’t help but think of Alan Partridge.

Giving a pretty epic recap, one person tweeted: ‘So far, people saying Brandon Flowers resembles an American TV Evangelist, Patrick Batemen, Alan Partridge, and what Jimmy Carr is trying to make himself look like 😂 #glastonbury2023’

‘Oh mate, Flowers looks like Alan Partridge auditioning to be Butlins red coat,’ quipped a second person, while a third added: ‘Not Brandon Flowers giving Alan Partridge #Glastonbury’

Another fan described him as an ‘Alan Partridge prequel’, and a different viewer suggested: ‘Bloke from the Killers looks like he’s got the lead role in an American reboot of I’m Alan Partridge.’

One person had very specific vibes, adding: ‘Brandon flowers look like Alan partridge if he was an evangelist preacher.’

And yet another said: ‘There is some strong #AlanPartridge energy coming from Brandon Flowers tonight #Glastonbury. A-ha!!’

Others were simply disappointed that Brandon wasn’t Britney, but one fan joked that there could be a very simple explanation.

They quipped: ‘To be fair, Brandon Flowers and Britney Spears are probably next to each other in Elton’s contacts. Maybe his finger slipped.’

Despite all the joke, as he introduced Brandon to the stage Sir Elton insisted the Killers star was ‘the first person’ that came to mind when he found out he was headlining Glastonbury.

‘My next guest, I first met in 2005 when I started playing Las Vegas. He came round to my hotel suite to play me his band’s first album, which was called Hot Fuss,’ he said.

‘We’ve been friends ever since, and he was the first person I thought of to ask to come and sing with me, even though he’s played Glastonbury six times with The Killers.

‘So I’d like to introduce my dear friend and fantastic artist, Brandon Flowers!’

Elsewhere during the set, Sir Elton brought out a trio of rising stars, with Gabriels singer Jacob Lusk, musician Stephen Sanchez and the epic Rina Sawayama all joining him throughout the night.
