Baghdad Central star Maisa Abd Elhadi ‘shot by Israeli police’ during violent protest
Baghdad Central star Maisa Abd Elhadi is currently recovering after reportedly being shot by Israeli police during a protest in Haifa, Israel.
Tensions have been mounting in the city ahead of an incoming court order which would evict dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in a majority Arab neighbourhood in East Jerusalem.
This week alone, according to Palestinian officials, at least 35 Palestinians, including 12 children, have been killed in the protests with hundreds more injured by police who are now facing accusations of brutality.
Hundreds more have been injured, including Elhadi, who has shared her experience on Instagram after a photo of the actress – who also starred in Netflix original series The Angel – in the back of an ambulance began to circulate on social media.
She highlighted a post which claimed she had been shot by Israeli police and injured her leg but is now ‘on the road to recovery.’
She has also been sharing several videos from the demonstrations.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson today urged Israel and Palestinians to ‘step back from the brink’.
‘The UK is deeply concerned by the growing violence and civilian casualties and we want to see an urgent de-escalation of tensions,’ he said in a short statement posted on social media on Wednesday morning.
The level of violence is said to be the worst since the 2014 Gaza war.
