Ricky Martin has split from his husband, Jwan Yosef, after around six years of marriage.

The Livin’ La Vida Loca icon, 51, announced that he had tied the knot with the artist, 38, at the beginning of 2017, a year after they started dating.

They went on to welcome two children together, Lucia and Renn – while the musician is also a dad to sons Matteo and Valentino.

In a statement shared with People Magazine, they said: ‘We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years.

‘Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other.’

The former couple first got close in 2015 after speaking on Instagram, and started dating a few months later, making their red carpet debut in 2016.

After a whirlwind romance, they got engaged that same year, with Ricky spilling the beans on his romantic proposal during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

Discussing the sweet moment, he told the host at the time: ‘We just got engaged. I proposed. I was really nervous. But I got on my knees and I took out – not a box – I just had them in a little velvet pouch.

‘Instead of saying, “Will you marry me?” I said, “I got you something.”

‘I said, “I want to spend my life with you.” And he was like, “What is the question?” [I said] “Would you marry me?”’
