The Temptation Island cast have been left reeling after host Mark Walberg walked in with another huge bombshell, introducing a savage twist into the series.

The USA reality series follows four couples who have reached a crossroads in their relationships, as they arrive in paradise and are separated into two separate villas, where temptation awaits in the form of 16 singletons.

They are given a glimpse of what their partners get up to at bonfire meetings but bosses have turned the drama up a notch with a brand new ‘temptation light’, which will illuminate whenever someone has ‘given in to temptation’.

Something tells us they might need to stock up on bulbs…

A preview clip showed the moment Mark talked the women through the new addition to the villa, telling them: ‘When you see that red light, that means that one of your partners in the other villa has given in to temptation.

‘You won’t know who it is and you won’t know what they’ve done, but when you see that light come on you know someone in the other villa has given in to temptation.

‘By the way, so you’re aware, there’s one of these lights in their villa as well. So, it’s safe to say that the island is always watching.’

Vanessa Valente, who is dating Roberto Maldonado, was instantly emotional by the twist, telling the host: ‘You need a distraction, only for this to be in here and have that visual, like “Nah, there is no distraction”.

‘To not know what that temptation is, it’s gut-wrenching. I’m going to sleep on this couch and watch that light all night long. I won’t be able to rest.’

In a confessional, she voiced her fears at being ‘hurt’ by her partner again.

‘I’m really upset because I think about just being hurt again,’ she told the camera. ‘I already have an inability to be vulnerable, and to just let my guard down and be soft and just be gentle.

‘So, now I’m just bracing, just waiting for the pain to finally hit me and it’s not a very good feeling.’

This isn’t the only twist that Temptation Island has in store for the season five contestants, as the trailer showed Mark teasing another change.

He confirmed that the singles will have the chance to reach out to those in couples, with a not-so-subtle warning on how their partners have been acting.

‘We’re going to do something we’ve never done on Temptation Island,’ he added. ‘Singles, you will have the option to send a message as well.’

Temptation Island airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on USA.
