Orange Cassidy injury forces AEW to change ending to Dynamite match on the fly

All Elite Wrestling were forced to change things round after Orange Cassidy got hurt during his match with PAC on Dynamite.

Last night’s show saw the two stars face off in a World Title Eliminator match to determine Kenny Omega’s championship opponent at Double or Nothing, and we saw the perils of both live TV and the wrestling business.

As AEW fans saw on Wednesday, the match ended in a no contest/double knockout when OC took a tough-looking Liger bomb, and then Omega hit PAC with the title.

It was then revealed that the upcoming match will be a Triple Threat with Kenny defending against both men.

According to PWInsider, while the ending itself was changed, the actual outcome would have remained the same if they hadn’t cut things short, as the plan was to do a 20-minute time limit draw leading to the three-way match announcement.

Meanwhile, Fightful Select reports that Cassidy is doing OK after the bump.

The incident came just days after WWE had to suddenly end one of their own matches on Monday Night Raw after Humberto Carrillo – who is also in good shape despite his incident – got hurt during his clash with Sheamus.

He hit a sunset flip powerbomb to the outside of the ring, but his knee looked to buckle and he ended up landing awkwardly with the Celtic Warrior falling onto him.

There was a bit of confusion for people watching as the referee checked on both men, and it seemed like Sheamus was also checking on his opponent while they were on the ground.

Humberto looked to signal that he was hurt, and the referee called off the match in a smart move to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Big decisions having to be made on the fly is nothing new in pro wrestling, and former WWE veteran Mike Chioda recently opened up on almost having to end The Undertaker and Goldberg’s match in Saudi Arabia.

The referee exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I almost had to call an audible during the Undertaker/Goldberg match at Saudi Arabia.

‘It went downhill after Goldberg got gashed open in the turnbuckle, got concussed. He was badly concussed and he got through the match, but barely. That’s when I was kinda worried because I thought, “oh my God!”

‘After the suplex, they almost broke their necks. “Oh my God, let’s get this done,” he was so concussed. I was waiting to hear back from somebody to say, “should I call this match or not because he’s not doing good at all?” ‘

The two legends of the business battled in Saudi Arabia in 2019, and things took a bad turn when Goldberg hit the turnbuckle post hard and ended up ‘concussed’, with the pair struggling through the remainder of nine-minute match.
