John Legend was spotted looking solemn as he stepped out to run errands, hours after wife Chrissy Teigen apologised for trolling socialite Courtney Stodden.

Yesterday, Chrissy, 35, released a statement after she was accused of sending abusive messages to Celebrity Big Brother star Courtney several years ago.

In one direct message, the mother-of-two allegedly told Courtney to ‘kill yourself’.

On Thursday, Chrissy’s husband John was spotted out and about in Los Angeles on his own. The All Of Me singer was pictured emerging from his car carrying a backpack and failed to raise a smile, looking fairly downbeat as he went about his day.

John, 42, has not publicly addressed the controversy and instead continued to promote ad campaigns on his social media, including for mental health mindful app Headspace and to raise awareness for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

The scandal unfolded this week as Courtney reiterated their past claims that they received online abuse from Chrissy when they was aged 16.

Courtney – who recently came out as non-binary – alleged to the Daily Beast that Chrissy would DM them vile messages in addition to tweeting posts like ‘I hate you’ at the teenager.

The reality star said: ‘She wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take “a dirt nap” but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, “I can’t wait for you to die”.’

Responding to the allegations, Chrissy tweeted: ‘Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bulls**t in front of the entire world. I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be.

‘I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel.

‘I have worked so hard to give you guys joy and be beloved and the feeling of letting you down is nearly unbearable, truly. These were not my only mistakes and surely won’t be my last as hard as I try but god I will try!!’
