Christopher Landon has promised that he will ‘do Wes Craven proud’ after being confirmed as the director for Scream 7.

Horror fans had a lot to celebrate this week when it was announced that another sequel was on the way from the slasher franchise.

There was a switch up on set as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – who served as filmmakers for the two most recent movies – were replaced by Landon.

He was behind Freaky and Happy Death Day, and also wrote Disturbia and a string of Paranormal Activity films, meaning viewers are in totally capable hands.

Taking to Instagram, he shared a snap of Ghostface to celebrate the news, with the message: ‘Looks like 7 really is a lucky number. More to come…’

In a subsequent update, Landon shared a special thank you to the movie fans who had supported the news of his arrival, vowing to honor original director Craven – who died in 2015.

‘Just a big, heart-felt thanks to all the #scream fans for welcoming me into the fold,’ he added.

‘Horror has been my passion all my life. I promise to do Wes, @TylerGillett and @BettinelliOlpin proud.

‘And of course, a massive shout out to my friend and hero @kevwilliamson. LET’S GO!!!!’

The last film in the franchise saw Sam and Tara Carpenter – aka Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera – swap Woodsboro for New York alongside their pals, while Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed returned to the fold.

No further details have been shared on Scream 7, or which cast members could make a comeback.

Kevin Williamson, who either wrote or produced every instalment of the franchise so far, previously opened up about the future of Scream, suggesting that it could continue forever.

Side note: We wouldn’t mind that at all.

Chatting to Collider ahead of the release of Scream 6, he said: ‘Now [I do think it can go on]. I’ve been proven wrong repeatedly.

‘Since this last one was such a pleasure… I also think one of the wonderful things about Scream is that there’s a different killer in every film.

‘There’s [Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, or Freddy Krueger], they don’t go away. And Ghostface changes with every movie, so we have an opportunity to change the motive, change the story, and we can always twist and turn it since it [the original Scream] was always meant to be a game-changer.’
