Mercedes Allay Testing Fears for Indy Pole-Sitter Romain Grosjean After F1 Calendar Clash
Romain Grosjean was all set to test the championship-winning Mercedes car of 2019 at the French Grand Prix. The Silver Arrows promised him a full day of testing along with demo laps before the race on race day.
However, with the Turkish Grand Prix getting canceled, the race calendar has had to go through a shuffle. The French Grand Prix will now take place a week earlier, on June 20th. This brings an unfortunate coincidence for Grosjean, with the IndyCar series’ Rev Group Grand Prix scheduled for the same weekend. Mercedes posted an update on this situation post the announcement.
Romain Grosjean will get to test the car in France, say Mercedes
Mercedes took to Twitter to announce that the Frenchman’s test will take place, despite the change in the season calendar.
The full day of testing in the W10 will still be going ahead, that plan remains unchanged, but the demo laps on the Sunday of the French GP won’t be possible now due to the calendar revisions. But the full test is still happening!

Mercedes put out a tweet, stating, “The full day of testing in the W10 will still be going ahead, that plan remains unchanged, but the demo laps on the Sunday of the French GP won’t be possible now due to the calendar revisions. But the full test is still happening!”
While he may not be getting demo laps on race day, Grosjean can still be content with a full day of testing. In addition, a chance to do so on Circuit Paul Ricard sweetens the deal further!
What is the new look of Grosjean’s Mercedes test?
As it stands, Grosjean cannot get in demo laps before race day in the French Grand Prix weekend. However, he will get a full day of testing the W10. The full-day test will continue as originally planned, with June 29th being the date.
Grosjean recently appeared on F1’s Behind the Grid podcast, where he spoke about the tires on offer and what the test meant to him after his big crash last year. The 35-year-old said, “It will be the Pirelli demo tyres, so that can always play a bit. I guess it’s going to be important for many people to see me in a Formula 1 car after what happened to me.”
The first question fans had across the world after the calendar update, was the impact it would have on Grosjean’s test. With Mercedes’ answer, fans can now rejoice about the fact that Grosjean’s stint with F1 is on course for a memorable finish.
