Martin Lewis has returned to social media with a strong message to the broadcasters, after ‘stepping away’ from Twitter.

The Money Saving Expert announced his temporary departure two weeks ago, signing off with: ‘Bye for now.’

This came as his popular ITV show, the Martin Lewis Money Show, was on pause.

However, he’s now back on our feeds, and has an important message – just as he’s been nominated for not one, but two National Television Awards.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the 51-year-old asked for ‘a quick favour’.

He wrote: ‘A quick favour. The NTA short-lists have just been announced and I’m chuffed to be up in two categories http://nationaltvawards.com/vote

‘The competition’s very stiff, so if you fancy giving me a vote on pages 5 & 6 that’d be very kind (& do click through to the end or it won’t count).

‘PS Huge thanks to all who voted in the long list to get me here.’

Martin then added: ‘PPS A win would be a strong message to broadcasters about the importance of money help on TV right now.’

Martin is up against Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly – who would be in the running for their 22nd award in a row – as well as Alison Hammond, The Traitors presenter Claudia Winkleman and The Chase’s Bradley Walsh.

Meanwhile, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live is up for best factual programme, against Clarkson’s Farm, Sort Your Life Out and Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs.

Earlier this year, it emerged that there was a chance of former colleagues Holly and Phillip Schofield facing off at the NTAs, as they were both included in the longlist for the TV presenter category. But, neither of them have made the cut.

Elsewhere, the late Dame Deborah James is being honoured in the authored documentary category for her film Bowelbabe in Her Own Words, a film that aired on the BBC about her life following her terminal bowel cancer diagnosis, before her death in June 2022 at the age of 40.

The other nominees are singer Lewis Capaldi, for his programme How I’m Feeling Now, Busted’s Matt Willis for his film Fighting Addiction, and former professional rugby league player Rob Burrow’s Living with MND, having announced his motor neurone disease diagnosis in 2019.

The National Television Awards 2023 are due to take place on Tuesday September 5 and will air at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
