England got off to a roaring start against Australia during the Women’s World Cup 2023, scoring their first goal of the semi-final 35 minutes into the match.

However, several people tuning in to watch the clash at home on BBC One and BBC iPlayer expressed their huge frustration over finding out that Ella Toone had scored a stellar goal before they had a chance to watch it themselves.

A number of people on Twitter complained that the broadcaster’s commentary was out of sync with the live feed, a gaffe described as ‘absolutely disgraceful’ by one disgruntled football fan.

‘@BBCSport absolutely disgraceful to not have the commentary in sync with the pictures on both the live channel and on iplayer. Ruining what should be a great event. Deserve to lose future rights as this isn’t the first time it’s happened,’ they wrote.

Another person remarked: ‘Sort the commentary out on iplayer it’s out of sync! @BBCSport @BBCiPlayer.’

Someone else questioned if the BBC had realised that the ‘commentary and sound is in front of the video’, saying that it ‘ruined’ the Toone goal.

‘On my TV the BBC commentary is ahead of the pictures. Good to hear the #EngAus goal before seeing it,’ one Twitter user quipped sarcastically.

While some might be grappling with the frustration of the commentary not being lined up perfectly with the broadcast, England’s brilliant first goal was a huge cause for celebration.

‘Get in! Cracking strike from Ella Toone. England lead,’ tweeted former England footballer Gary Lineker.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford seemed to predict Ella’s moment of glory before it even happened, sharing a picture on his Instagram Story ahead of the match of him wearing a football shirt with her surname on the back.

Metro.co.uk has contacted the BBC for comment.

The England vs Australia Women’s World Cup semi-final is airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
