I’m a bridal dress designer, brides always make same tacky fashion mistake on their wedding day – they look less elegant

CHOOSING an outfit for your big day involves a lot of decision-making from head to toe.

And while it comes down to personal choice, one bridal dress designer has told of a tacky fashion mistake brides always make on their wedding day.

Andriana Mitchell has been designing, making and altering dresses for over 20 years

Ms Mitchell gave her advice to brides getting ready for their big day

Andriana Mitchell has been designing, making and altering dresses for over 20 years, since she studied textile design in her native Croatia

She has sold and altered designer brands such as Jenny Packham, Ellie Saab, Valentino and Pronovias during that time

However she has revealed that she is not a fan of brides wearing runners on their big day or changing into them after the ceremony.

She says leisure footwear can make the bride too casually relaxed, slouched and look less elegant on her dream day.

In recent years, there is a growing trend among brides to wear runners under the dress or change into trainers or flip flops later in the day to feel more comfortable than staying in killer heels for hours.

But Andriana, who has just opened her new bridal studio Nadur Design In Navan, Co. Meath says brides should choose wisely when deciding on footwear.

“It’s a very individual decision but personally, I am against brides wearing runners on the big day.

“Heels, even a little one, affects how we move, how we hold our shoulders and how we carry ourselves more elegantly in a dream dress.

“I find that runners make the bride feel more casual so they often slouch or walk faster than the graceful movement of their dress.

“There are of course exceptions to every rule but I think even if a bride can’t do heels, then they should wear a sandal or wedges.

“But no runners.

“Choose wisely and break-in the footwear around the house before the big day to soften them and get used to them.

“Don’t wear killer heels if you don’t normally wear them.

“When I got married, my mother-in-law put loads of flip flops in the bathroom and they were all taken in a short time. But guests are different.

“All eyes and cameras are on the bride and I often get told by a bride who has changed into runners at the reception, that they looked shorter or their dress dragged along the floor in photographs”.

She added: “Over the years ladies have come to me to alter a shop bought dress and I will always be honest and alter the dress to make the girl look and most importantly,  feel their very best!”
