Thursday is A-level results day and teenagers up and down the country will be nervously finding out how well they fared in exams.

But if there’s something certain to make your palms sweat even more than a bad grade, it’s comedian Frankie Boyles’ tweet about results day.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, the 51-year-old wrote: ‘If you didn’t get the A-level results you wanted, remember that we’re only a few years away from the collapse of organised human life.’

Ah, nothing like a nice dose of existential dread to ease students over that results day hurdle.

Frankie wasn’t the only famous face to share his thoughts on grades this week, with Jeremy Clarkson also chucking in his two cents.

The former Top Gear host tweeted: ‘It’s not the end of the world if your A level results aren’t what you’d hoped for. I got a C and 2 Us and here I am today with my own brewery.’

He also added to a fan who pointed out his brewery sells exploding ale: ‘The beer, mercifully, is fine. I’m having some now, with my breakfast in the south of France.’

Every year the 63-year-old wades in on Twitter come results day with a tale of his wealth, and how he’s made it – despite it all.

Last year, Jeremy was holidaying on a boat, despite his U grades.

The year before, he bragged about his Bentley. Before that, it was all about his Cotswolds mansion and Diddly Squat farm.

In 2019 it was his grand French chateau he pointed out as a metaphor for his success.

Meanwhile, pupils awaiting their results this morning faced increased anxiety as Ofqual, the exams watchdog for England, said it would impose tougher grade boundaries this year.

That means fewer pupils are set to receive their predicted results this year, as Ofqual aimed to return to pre-pandemic grading.

But while the number of A-level entries receiving top grades has gone down slightly this year – but the figure is still higher than it was before the coronavirus pandemic.
