Phil Spencer has received heartfelt messages of support from individuals including Piers Morgan and Ben Fogle after sharing the news of his parents’ deaths.

On Sunday August 20, the Location, Location, Location star posted an update on Instagram with details concerning the fatal car accident that his mother Anne, 82, and father Richard, 89, had been involved in, revealing that the car they were in ‘toppled over a bridge’ into a river.

Sharing a photo of the late couple together, Phil said that while he was feeling ‘desperately sad and shocked beyond all belief’, his family is ‘clear that if there can ever be such a thing as having a “good end” – this was it’, as his parents ‘went together’.

‘It feels horrendous right now, but after almost 60 years of marriage – to die together on the farm they so loved will, I know, be a comfort in the future,’ the 53-year-old wrote in his caption.

‘Mum Dad are together which is precisely where they would have wanted to be. ❤️.’

Numerous people have commented with words of support on his Instagram post, including his Location, Location, Location co-star Kirstie Allsopp, who wrote: ‘Such a brave and loving statement and so typical of you & your lovely family. So many people have you all in their thoughts and prayers. Xxx.’

‘How incredibly sad. So sorry Phil,’ said TalkTV presenter Piers, while adventurer Ben added: ‘So sorry Phil ❤️.’

Chef Phil Vickery wrote: ‘My thoughts are with you and the family ❤️,’ while This Morning presenter Craig Doyle also expressed his condolences, writing: ‘Oh Phil, this is so very sad. My thoughts are with you and your family. May they rest in peace 💚.’

Radio presenter Jenni Falconer commented: ‘Oh Phil, sending so much love to you and your family. This is truly heartbreaking. ❤️.’

In his post, Phil said that it was a ‘blessing’ that neither of his parents would mourn one another, because they died together.

Recalling how they were before the fatal accident, he shared: ‘Although they were both on extremely good form in the days before (hence the sudden idea to go out to lunch), Mums Parkinson’s and Dads Dementia had been worsening and the long term future was set to be a challenge.

‘So much so that Mum said to me only a week ago that she had resigned to thinking “now it looks like we will probably go together”. And so they did.

‘That was what God had planned for them – and it was a good plan.’

Phil wrote about how his brother had a penknife, which he used to cut his parents seatbelts so that they could be pulled out of the river, but ‘they never regained consciousness’.

Kirstie also posted a tribute on her Instagram page to her co-star’s parents, stating: ‘They were farmers, animal lovers & devoted parents to Robert, Caryn, Helen & Philip and adored their 8 Grandchildren, the only blessing is that they died together, so will never have to mourn the loss of each other.

‘I suspect many of you may want to join me in sending so much love to Phil and all his family. Please keep them in your thoughts & prayers, Thank you.’
