American soap producer David Jacobs has died aged 84.

Jacobs wrote and produced the likes of Dallas and Knots Landing, but has sadly died after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

His son Aaron confirmed that Jacobs died on Sunday at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in California.

‘He had Alzheimer’s for many years, and recently he had recurring infections that led to his death,’ Aaron told Deadline.

Jacobs was also the creator of CBS primetime series Paradise, and served as producer on the likes of Homefront and Four Corners.

One of his latest projects was Knots Landing Reunion: Together Again in 2005.

Jacobs’ other writing credits include Chicago Story and Secrets of Midland Heights.

Jacobs created soap opera Dallas, which ran from 1978 to 1991 across 14 seasons, as well as the reboot series which aired from 2012 to 2014.

Dallas spin-off series Knots Landing debuted in 1979 and ran until 1993, across 14 seasons.

Jacobs also served as executive producer on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and Homefront,, both of which earned him Emmy nominations.

As well as son Aaron, Jacobs is also survived by his daughter Molly, his wife Diana, his daughter Albyn Hall from a previous marriage, and two grandchildren.
