Darryn Frost has revealed the chilling words that spurred him into action during the London Bridge terror attack on 29 November 2019.

The 41-year-old was working as a communications manager for the Ministry of Justice at the time and was at a prison rehabilitation event at Fishmongers’ Hall on the day the horrific events unfolded.

Appearing on Thursday’s Lorraine to discuss London Bridge: Facing Terror, a Channel 4 documentary about the day, Darryn spoke about the moment he knew something was seriously wrong.

Darryn famously grabbed a narwhal tusk from the wall and speared 28-year-old Usman Khan, who killed Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones on the day.

Khan was shot dead by police.

Speaking to Christine Lampard, who was filling in for Lorraine Kelly on Thursday, Darryn explained he was sitting upstairs at Fishmongers’ Hall when he heard commotion downstairs.

‘There was a lot of panic in the hall at the time. No one really knew what was going on because we were in a hall upstairs and all the commotion was happening downstairs,’ he explained, before telling Loose Women’s Christine about the chilling words a man sitting next to him uttered.

‘There was another ex-prisoner who was sat next to me – he revealed to me later that he was Muslim and he didn’t believe in the actions of that man – but he mentioned to me that “it didn’t sound like kids fooling around”.

‘Someone mentioned kids got in the building and there were skateboards or something. He said: “That’s not the cry or shout of kids” and that was my spur to action.

‘And I stood up at the same time as Steve Gallant and we ran across the hall to go and respond.’

A description for London Bridge: Facing Terror reads: ‘[The film] will see survivors share their story of the attack in detail for the first time, as well as exploring how each was shaped by events in their past which ultimately led them to all be at Fishmongers’ Hall on that fateful day.’
