Roger Federer Shows Off Solid Movement During Practice Against Marin Cilic Ahead of His Return on Clay
Tennis ace Roger Federer was out of action for over a year due to a knee injury he suffered in the previous season. Currently, the Swiss superstar is in Geneva, getting ready to compete in his first clay-court event of the season. After returning on the Tour in Doha earlier this year, he will be seen after another break of close to two months.
Not long ago, a video surfaced in which Federer was seen practicing, giving fans a glimpse of his first knock on the clay courts. In the clip, the Swiss ace was working on his shots from the baseline. At the start, he was hitting balls a little casually, but as the video progressed, the intensity in his shot-making increased.
Roger Federer trains with former Grand Slam champion ahead of the match on Tuesday
Federer was practicing with former Grand Slam champion Marin Cilic, who is competing at the tournament too. Roger, surrounded by members of his team Severin Luthi and Ivan Ljubicic, is moving in the right direction with his preparations.
Reflecting on Federer’s past season, he has barely played any tennis over the past 15 months. After his semifinal defeat at the Australian Open 2020, he injured his knee and had to undergo two knee surgeries. The recovery process kept him away from the men’s circuit.
He returned at the ATP 250 event in Doha in March this year. Although he did not last long in the tournament, he was content with his performance, as he had returned after a lengthy period.
Currently, he is eager to get back to playing, something that he is best known for. He is scheduled to play the winner of the match between Australian tennis player Jordan Thompson and Spanish tennis player Pablo Andujar. All eyes will be on the Swiss superstar as fans are waiting to catch a glimpse of their favorite player.
