Richard Madeley tucked into a bit of squirrel live on air today during Good Morning Britain – and happy Bank Holiday Monday to you!

The presenter, 67, was co-hosting the programme alongside Kate Garraway, 56, with the duo discussing the concept of squirrel burgers.

Having both been presented with the fare for a debate between a farmer who is selling the item and a Peta representative who felt it was cruel, Richard described the food as smelling ‘pungent’.

Made up of 80% squirrel and 20% pork for fat – with three squirrels per burger – Richard carefully removed the salad on top of his dressed burger before taking a bite, in the name of experimentation.

The broadcaster chewed a little, thoughtfully, before declaring: ‘It tastes not unlike a chicken burger.’

Kate had previously voiced her aversion to trying the burger because of her fondness for Beatrix Potter’s character, Squirrel Nutkin.
