Shoppers slam Rita Ora’s Primark collaboration and claim she ‘didn’t design any of it’ with pieces on sale before launch

PRIMARK’S collaboration with Rita Ora has come under fire by fashion fans as they theorise the singer “didn’t design” any of the collection.

Critics blasted the fast fashion retailer for “just sticking Rita Ora’s name” on old designs it was already flogging before the launch on Tuesday.

The 169-piece collection contains a number of autumn staples, such as boots, coats, maxi skirts and knitwear, as well as cropped tees, lace leggings and baseball caps.

According to Primark, it has been curating the pieces with Hot Right Now singer Rita for nearly two years.

Fashion designer Maddy Page railed against the collection, saying she feels it is a “cover up” for the brand’s standard autumn releases to make the pieces “seem more exciting”

The collection’s coats came most under fire as eagle-eyed shoppers said that they have seen a number of the winter pieces being sold in Primark before.

Its £45 light pink Faux Fur Coat was blasted on TikTok yesterday by content creator Lucy Blu.

“Like most of us, I went into [Primark] to see the Rita Ora collection and I actually thought it was fairly s**t,” she said.

“I’ve seen this coat every single year”.

Lucy added that the collection earrings were “tacky”, the stiletto boots were “horrendous” and a number of the clothing items were “see-through”.

Other shoppers critiqued the pricing of the collection, claiming it was too expensive amid the cost of living crisis.

“The Rita Ora and Primark collection is just as disappointing as you thought it would be,” Amber Cheeks said on X/Twitter.

“Cute ideas but poorly executed, especially for the price.”

“Miss Rita Ora Waititi, what business do you have putting your name on a £34 blazer in Primark in this economy?” another critic added.

The most expensive item of the collection is a £60 Longline Wrap Coat, followed by three other winter coats at £45 each.

The cheapest item is a £3 Chunky Chain Bracelet made of zinc and glass.

A blurb on the collection says that it is “almost two years in the making” and underpinned by a vision of “versatility for everyone”.

Primark said the collection is its “first ever truly international collaboration” and is available in over 430 stores worldwide, including New York and its biggest shop in the world in Birmingham.

A Primark spokesperson said: “Reaction to our Rita Ora x Primark partnership has been widely welcomed and celebrated by our customers, which has carried through to the incredible demand for the collection we’ve seen since it landed in stores this week.

“This has been a true collaboration with Rita, whose inimitable style and creativity has co-created every stage of the design and launch process.

“As with everything at Primark, this collection is all about offering amazing style and quality, at unbeatable value, enabling our customers get her look for less.

“While it features more premium fabrics and detailed designs, it was still created with value at its heart with pieces starting from £3 for accessories and £4 for clothing .

“This commitment to affordability and value runs through everything we sell: alongside our collaborations and stand-alone ranges, we always have our core Primark ranges available which we remain as committed as ever to being the very best value on the high street.”

One plus-size shopper visited her local Primark to share her “buy or bye” reviews on the collection’s pieces.
