Bill Turnbull to reunite with Susanna Reid as he makes Good Morning Britain return after Piers Morgan exit
Bill Turnbull is set to reunite with former BBC Breakfast co-star Susanna Reid next week, after returning to guest present Good Morning Britain after Piers Morgan’s exit.
ITV bosses confirmed the news today, stating he will be hosting the show from Monday May 24 until Wednesday May 26.
Discussing the news, the veteran broadcaster and Classic FM star revealed how thrilled he was to be back beside his pal.
‘I am very pleased to be back presenting on GMB, especially as I get to be reunited with my old pal Susanna,’ he said.
Susanna agreed: ‘I am delighted Bill is back in the presenter chair at the GMB desk.
‘He has been a beloved favourite of breakfast television viewers for years and a good friend of mine.’
As Good Morning Britain editor Neil Thompson added: ‘I’m thrilled that Bill is rejoining us behind the GMB desk.
‘It’s not just his brilliant and enduring onscreen partnership with Susanna that makes its mark, it’s his relationship with the audience in general, one based on authenticity, authority, warmth, humour and trust.’
Bill previously took over hosting duties last February, alongside Susanna – appearing on the sofa for three episodes.
The pair famously worked together on BBC Breakfast, where Bill appeared for more than 15 years before announcing his departure in 2015.
He is the latest famous face to co-host GMB following Piers’ exit in March.
The journalist left the show after he was criticised for his rant regarding Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, with his comments receiving more than 59,000 Ofcom complaints.
He has not been officially replaced, with guest hosts taking his seat – including Adil Ray and Alastair Campbell.
Amid speculation over who would land the permanent job, ITV boss Kevin Lygo vowed that he couldn’t be replaced.
‘You can’t replace somebody like him. There is nobody like Piers, for good or bad,’ he said.
Speaking to Deadline, he added: ‘We have a roster of presenters, including Ben [Shephard], Susanna, Charlotte [Hawkins], and Kate [Garraway]. They’re all stepping up and doing a few more days than they would have done…
‘We’ll mix and match until we feel what the right thing is to do. There isn’t a single person [who can replace him].’
