TV star reveals lung cancer diagnosis-Ruth Lawes-Entertainment – Metro

Susan Sullivan, best known for US TV shows including Castle and Another World, has revealed she has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

The 80-year-old actress shared a picture of herself in hospital receiving treatment on X, formerly known as Twitter, and captioned the post: ‘Life‘s surprising little turns try to be ready for them with humor and hope. On we go.’

In a later update, the Julie Farr star clarified she’d had surgery to remove lung cancer and thanked her followers and fans for their support, ‘lovely comments and concerns.’

Alongside an autumnal picture of orange trees, she wrote: ‘Thanks for all the lovely comments and concerns. I had lung cancer. The surgery was successful. The healing process is a struggle, Thanks glad you’re out there! #friends.’

Susan then shared after the surgery she was now ‘cancer free’, adding: ‘Wanted to share with all those friends who have made this journey with me and that’s you! I am cancer free!

In reference to her long-term partner, psychologist Connell Cowan, she continued: ‘You can’t do this one alone. Takes a family of friends and if you’re really lucky a good man thank you, Connell!!! Love you.’

A prolific actress, Susan got her start in the business playing alongside Dustin Hoffman in the Broadway play Jimmy Shine in the 60s.

After making inroads into a career as a daytime TV star, she signed a five-year contract to play Leonore Delaney on Another World, taking over the role from Judith Barcroft.

In addition to shooting pilots, including for The Incredible Hulk, she was cast in dramas including Rich Man, Poor Man Book II and Dr Julie Farr in Having Babies

For the latter, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Actress and reprised the role for two TV films and a short-lived weekly series.

In 1991, she portrayed Maggie Gioberti in the hist CBS primetime soap Falcon Rest, appearing in more than 200 episodes.

More recently, from 2009 until 2019, Susan starred alongside Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and Molly Quinn on Castle.

She’s also had roles in shows including The Kominsky Method, Last Man Standing, Two and Half Men, Joan of Arcadia and Brothers & Sisters.
