Anna Paquin has defended her marriage to Stephen Moyer as a bisexual woman.

The True Blood stars have been married since 2010, the same year Anna publicly came out as bisexual.

This Pride Month, Anna, 38, has been forced to defend her monogamous marriage to people who believe bisexuality is erased when a bi woman marries a man.

The actress shared a post to Instagram, reading: ‘I’m a #proudbisexual who is married to a wonderful human who happens to be a man.’

She added in the caption: ‘If he doesn’t have a problem with it why should anyone else? #loveislove🌈 #f***bierasure #bipride.’

Anna had earlier shared a screenshot of an online comment, claiming that celebrities are only ‘genuinely bi’ if they ‘end up’ in a same-sex relationship.

The comment read: ‘I am getting tired of seeing “bi” celebrities constantly advocate for it only to end up conventionally married to men with multiple children, living out the so-called white-picket-fence life. For once it would be nice to see a genuinely bi celebrity end up with a female but I’m yet to see it so far. And unfortunately that does little for the cause and makes it look like a publicity stunt more than anything else.’

Anna wrote over the image: ‘Ah yes … the “you aren’t queer enough” BS.’

The star also warned bigots to unfollow her during Pride Month, writing on Instagram: ‘Hey! FYI (for those unaware) June is LGBTQIA+ pride month. So the folks who put their bigotry on display in the comment sections of my recent posts why don’t yo hit that unfollow button right now.’

The Piano star Anna met Stephen, 51, when they began filming True Blood as Sookie Stackhouse and vampire Bill Compton respectively, and got engaged in 2009, getting married a year later.

In 2012, they welcomed fraternal twins Charlie and Poppy together.

In 2010, ahead of her and Stephen’s wedding, Anna came out as bisexual in a video for the Give a Damn campaign, and in 2014, she tweeted: ‘Proud to be a happily married bisexual mother. Marriage is about love not gender.’

Since coming out, she has been forced to defend herself against misconceptions about bisexuality, including it becoming past tense when a bisexual person embarks on a relationship with a person of the opposite sex, and that bisexual people are ‘greedy’ and will cheat on partners.

In an interview with Larry King, the Oscar winner said: ‘I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision. It’s not being greedy or numerous other ignorant things I’ve heard at this point.’

Explaining why bisexuality isn’t ‘past tense’ for her now she’s married to Stephen, she said: ‘Are you still straight if you are with somebody — if you were to break up with them or if they were to die, it doesn’t prevent your sexuality from existing. It doesn’t really work like that.’

Anna will soon be back on our screens in the second season of Flack, in which she plays a PR executive trying to clear up the messes of her clients.
