Fans of Studio Ghibli are anticipating the ‘weird freak’ performance of a lifetime as Robert Pattinson prepares to make his voice-acting debut.

The British actor, 37, first made his name in the Harry Potter and Twilight series before going on to appear in a series of indie movies and the new Batman.

And now he’s set to add a Studio Ghibli movie to his CV after a new teaser trailer for the latest offering from veteran artist and director Hayao Miyazaki.

The Boy and the Heron, set for release in December, follows the story of a 12-year-old boy who is told by a mysterious heron that his dead mother is still alive.

Robert’s voice work as one of the two titular characters has taken social media by storm, with fans congratulating him for embracing his ‘freak’ side.

‘God he’s so cool. Every generation deserves a teen heartthrob who embraces his status as a weird freak character actor,’ one person said in Twitter.

A second person credited both Robert and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe with embracing the weirder sides of their personalities in their 20s.

‘Robert Pattinson and Daniel Radcliffe truly have such versatile and crazy roles after Twilight and Harry Potter,’ they said.

Another remarked that ‘Robert Pattinson is one of the few major actors who understands that animated films require you to vocally work within the character.’

Numerous classic Studio Ghibli films, including Spirited Away, have become successful in the UK and the US after receiving famous English dubs.

The Boy and the Heron will see Robert’s fellow British actors Christian Bale and Florence Pugh join the stellar voice cast, alongside US star Willem Dafoe.

As for Robert’s personal life, his relationship with Suki Waterhouse is thriving as she recently revealed that before dating the Batman actor in 2018, she had abstained from sex for six months.

‘It turned out to be great. I got very clear and got very comfortable with being by myself—then I ended up meeting my boyfriend,’ she told Driven Minds podcast.
