Meghan Markle actress dubs Lifetime TV movie a ‘wild ride’ after backlash over casting
Sydney Morton, who’s playing Meghan Markle in the controversial upcoming Lifetime TV movie about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has dubbed the experience a ‘wild ride’ after the backlash over the casting.
Starring alongside Prince Harry actor Jordan Dean, 32, Sydney will portray the Duchess in the movie Harry & Meghan: Escaping The Palace.
However, following the release of a first-look photo of the pair done up as the royal couple, not everyone was impressed.
Some claimed that they look nothing like Harry and Meghan, with one quipping: ‘Well, they got the hair color right. So there’s that,’ and another writing on Twitter: ‘You must me joking…really?’
Despite the backlash and confusion, She’s Gotta Have It actress Sydney thanked fans for their support and said the experience was the stuff of ‘literal dreams’.
‘And [the] cat’s out of the bag!’ the 37-year-old penned on Instagram. ‘Very grateful to be working with these wonderful people!
‘AND I get to be on this wild ride with an old friend?? Literal dreams! Thank you everyone for all your kind words! Let’s goooooooo.’
She added on her Instagram Stories: ‘Wow, thank you for all the love! I’m so excited for this one…’
Sydney is best known for her role in She’s Gotta Have It, and has appeared in the series Manifest.
Production for Harry & Meghan: Escaping The Palace kicks off in May and the movie is expected to air later this year.
‘Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will explore what really happened inside the palace that drove Harry and Meghan to leave everything behind in order to make a future for themselves and their son Archie,’ read a synopsis.
It’s the third film in the Lifetime Royals series, and Jordan and Sydney take the reins from previous stars in the franchise to play Harry and Meghan.
Jordan Whalen is returning as Prince William, alongside Laura Mitchell as Kate Middleton, Steve Coulter as Prince Charles, and Maggie Sullivun as Queen Elizabeth II.
Meghan and Harry walked away from their royal duties last year, and now live in California with their son Archie.
They famously opened up about their decision and their difficult relationship with the rest of the royal family in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.
Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace airs on Lifetime Canada later this year.
