‘Deontay Wilder Deserves a Shot’: Dean Whyte Opens Up on the Tyson Fury – Anthony Joshua Situation

This week, Deontay Wilder came in as a major roadblock for the Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua showdown. Wilder had a powerful urge to book a trilogy with Fury. But the latter was interested in fighting his compatriot for the undisputed heavyweight title. However, Wilder proceeded legally, and the arbitrator ruled the decision in his favor.

Recently, Dean Whyte spoke to iFL TV on this entire scenario. Here, he said, “I mean look it’s a bit heart-wrenching because the whole of the UK wanted to see it (Joshua vs Fury). And now Deontay Wilder, at the end of the day he deserves a shot. If there was a contract in place, he deserves a shot.

“But it’s really bad timing. We wish which could have happened months ago when we didn’t get so close. So close to this moment where we actually could taste the fight happening,”

The Joshua vs Fury fight was all set to go on floors on August 14 in Saudi Arabia. All the documentation and filings regarding this fight were done, and fans just awaited to see the pair take up the ring space once for all. But out of nowhere, Wilder jumped in to play his cards and subsequently pour cold water on this matchup.

Whyte, in his above statement, asserted that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ deserves a rematch if it was mentioned in the contracts. However, he still felt that Wilder took his actions at the wrong time because the only fight fans wished to see at heavyweight was the ‘AJ’ vs Fury bout.

Is the Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight still on the cards?

Joshua’s encounter with Fury has been pushed to year-end now. But both the British boxers will have to get past their next opponents, in order to face each other in a momentous undisputed title fight.

Especially, the undefeated Fury will have to pass through the rugged challenge that Wilder will put forth in this trilogy.

With that, it’ll be intriguing to see how things play out at the big men’s division in the coming few months. What do you derive from Dean Whyte’s comments? Do you think Wilder should have waited for Fury to finish off his contest with Joshua?
