Twitch Adding New ‘Pools, Hot-Tubs, and Beaches’ Category Might Be a Big Blow to Hot-Tub Streamers

The biggest streaming platform in the world, Twitch, is currently struggling to deal with the large amount of hot-tub streamers on it. From casual viewers to a plethora of big streamers, everyone has been talking about the matter for a long time now.

While big names like Ninja and xQc have openly criticized hot-tub streamers, others like Pokimane decided to become a part of the trend themselves. Amidst all this drama, Twitch has now added a new category named Pools, Hot-Tubs, and Beaches.

The working of Pools, Hot-Tubs, and Beaches category on Twitch

In a recent blog, Twitch attempted to clarify the community’s confusions regarding the latest category. Apparently, Pools, Hot-Tubs, and Beaches will function similarly to any other existing category. This implies that the creator can change it mid stream based on their content.

Another big highlight is the advertising in Pools, Hot-Tubs, and Beaches category. Ads are a part of this category, and the advertisers have full authority over including or excluding such content from their target audience.

Lastly, Twitch has laid emphasis on its Nudity and Attire policy, yet again. Streamers who wear swimsuits while streaming on beaches or pools must stream into the Pools, Hot-Tubs and Beaches category now. If they fail to do so, the platform will change their content’s category itself, and notify them about the same via mail.

This is undoubtedly a great step to improve the classification of content on Twitch. Viewers who despise hot-tub streams can now avoid them more easily, and the ones who like such content can find it in no time.

Hot-tub streamers might witness a decrease in their ad revenue

As aforementioned, advertisers can exclude hot-tub streams for the promotion of their products. Many believe that a plethora of advertisers will now exclude hot-tub streams, primarily owing to the surrounding controversies.

On the flip side, there’s also a possibility that hot-tub streamers might make more ad revenue than ever now. Pools, Hot-Tubs, and Beaches can become one of the most-watched categories on Twitch. Accordingly, advertisers might want to capitalize on this ever-growing popularity.

A post on r/LivestreamFail talked about the implications of the new category on Twitch:

It is too early to assume how Pools, Hot-Tubs, and Beaches will impact the ongoing hot-tub meta on Twitch. However, effective implementation of the new policy might help in decreasing the misuse of other categories like Just Chatting.
