Crocodile Dundee icon Paul Hogan made a return to public life after revealing his body was ‘falling apart’ in a terrifying health scare.

The 84-year-old actor arrived at the Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney to celebrate the launch of politician John Brown’s autobiography, Brownie.

He was among guests including Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, whom he was pictured sitting next to.

Hogan appeared in good spirits as he smiled throughout the celebrations following a difficult year with his health.

The Almost an Angel star has battled a number of health problems over the years, including a benign growth on his kidney.

He was diagnosed with retroperitoneal fibrosis, which sees the growth wrapped around the abdominal aorta and pressed onto his kidney.

In November 2022, he revealed the devastating extent of his health issues during an appearance on A Current Affair with Tracy Grimshaw.

‘I just… I’ve lost all my body fat and the muscles all shrank and the strength has come back, because it left me feeble. I get Chance [his son] to open jars for me.’

Detailing his health battle further, Hogan joked that his friends ‘hate’ him as he can eat anything without ‘putting on an ounce’.

He was prescribed medication to shrink the benign growth but was advised he needs to regain his strength due to the ailment forcing him to lose weight.

‘They shrink your muscles and [they’re] supposed to make you fat, but I got thinner and thinner and thinner,’ he continued.

The Hollywood blockbuster star has had a pacemaker fitted and said he’s ‘being held together by string’. Hogan explained that he was ‘still fit’ and in good health until the age of 79 but that ‘things start[ed] to fall apart’ when he turned 80.

Hogan is best known for starring as Michael J. ‘Crocodile’ Dundee in the Crocodile Dundee franchise, which includes three films released in 1986, 1988, and 2001.

His role in the action films saw him win a Golden Globe and a Bafta nomination and become a familiar household name.
