The Full Monty star Tom Wilkinson dies aged 75-Josie Copson-Entertainment – Metro

Tom Wilkinson has died aged 75, his family have announced.

The British Oscar-nominated actor was well known for his role in The Fully Monty.

He won a BAFTA Award for playing Gerad in the comedy film, as well as a Golden Globe, and a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Film for the role of Benjamin Franklin in John Adams.

The star’s family released a statement today, which reads: ‘It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Wilkinson announce that he died suddenly at home on December 30. His wife and family were with him.

‘The family asks for privacy at this time.’

Wilkinson, who was born on February 5 1948, began acting on TV and his appearance as Mr Pecksniff, in the BBC 1994 adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit was particularly celebrated.

After success on The Full Monty, he gained more film credits, which include star roles in Sense and Sensibility, Batman Begins, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
