It was panic stations at the Clark household after Rylan was attacked by a bat that flew at the TV personality as he opened the front door.

The former X Factor contestant and full-time national treasure, 35, took to Instagram to warn his followers of the low-flying mammals and recount his terrifying experience.

Hilariously ranting into the camera, he told fans that a bat landed on his hand, and he asked for help and advice on how to deal with bats who get a little too close for comfort.

‘I ain’t joking with ya,’ he opened.

‘I have just come to my front door and opened it, and a bat has flown at me and landed on my hand.

‘Landed on my hand! A bat! And then it’s flown away.’

He continued: ‘Now, it’s snowing – has anyone got any bat expertise? Is that normal? When it’s snowing? Because it has flown and landed on my hand. There. It’s landed on me and then gone!

‘Can someone please tell me if that’s normal behaviour? Because I don’t think that’s normal for the bat. I’ve already got a [pet] pheasant. I don’t need this! So can someone tell me, please?’

In the comments, the likes of Jedward and Frankie Bridge playfully teased Rylan about his horrifying experience but offered no advice on how to deal with the problem.

‘I think you need to say that it landed on your hand again,’ Frankie posted, completing her comment with a crying-laughing emoji.

Meanwhile, Jedward suggested that Rylan should dress as Batman for Halloween parties he gets invited to in nine months’ time.

Another user, Bizza29, offered a more positive perspective on the situation and actually gave a frazzled Rylan the valuable advice he was looking for.

They said: ‘My husband is an ecologist and says it’s not normal but [the bat] probably just needed somewhere to land momentarily. Nothing to worry about. Think of yourself as the chosen one – the place of comfort for a cold bat.’

The encounter with the bat likely gave poor Rylan flashbacks to when a snake invaded his house in September last year, with him even mistaking a belt for one.

Taking to Instagram to share CCTV evidence of one of the snakes, Rylan wrote: ‘Oh my f*****g God! Noticed one of my cameras had moved. That b*****d is back! Send help!’

In better news for the Radio 2 DJ, Rylan has been encouraged by fans to get back into singing after a belting performance on New Year’s Eve with Rick Astley.

As part of the New Year’s Eve line-up, Rylan and Rick performed a rendition of Dead or Alive’s 1985 number one hit You Spin Me Round.

‘You were fabulous, loved the sparkly string vest, Happy New Year. You’ve been rickrolled and spun right round,’ said social media user Ellen Doolan.
