Mae Martin has teased that Feel Good may one day return after the upcoming second and final season – and we’re keeping everything crossed.

The new chapter is set to arrive on Netflix next month on June 4, and kicks off with Mae and George (played by Charlotte Ritchie) broken up following the tumultuous events of the last series and Mae back at her old rehab facility.

Like its first series, the returning comedy is made up of six brilliant episodes, with the finale kissing goodbye to the couple forever. Or so we thought…

Metro.co.uk exclusively caught up with Mae and Charlotte and asked the all-important question: Will we ever see the duo together again?

‘I’d love to, to be honest,’ Mae told us. ‘When we’ve had some space from it to explore different aspects of them and see if they’re still together and what they’re up to. I’d really like to. I’m not so sure about my co-writer Joe [Hampson].’

Thinking about what conditions they would like to throw Mae and George into, Mae continued: ‘I really want to write a sci-fi film and just put all the characters into that scenario or a horror movie.

‘I’d love to see Mae and George in a situation that is nothing to do with their relationship. They have to kill a serial killer or something like that.’

Yep, we’re invested already. Netflix, let’s make this happen.

Mae devastatingly announced last year that Feel Good would be concluding with season two, leaving behind the world of Mae and George forever.

‘I’m beyond excited to be able to return to the world of Feel Good, and to see Mae and George’s love story through to the dramatic conclusion we had always planned,’ they said in a statement.

‘I’m really deeply attached to this story and I’m so grateful to be getting back to work with the incredible team at Objective Fiction and our hilarious cast. Having spent most of 2020 speaking only to my kettle and my television as I watched the world burn on the internet, I’m euphoric to be around other human beings again.

‘Seeing Joe Hampson’s and my dumb jokes come to life is heaven. Thank you, Netflix!’

While we’re still trying to process the end of Feel Good is nigh, series two has plenty to keep us satisfied.

‘Mae and George are broken up,’ teases the synopsis. ‘Shaken by her relapse, Linda and Malcolm check Mae into her old rehab facility in Canada. Mae’s old guidance counsellor Audrey wants Mae to get to the root of her issues, but Mae is reluctant to look into the past.

‘In England, George is attempting to better herself, hoping that Mae will return. However a phone call from Mae confirms that they are truly over, and George falls into despair.

‘But when George meets Elliott, an attractive, progressive teacher, she immediately falls for him. Elliott persuades George not to give up, and George decides to do something meaningful and sets up a social activism group at her school.

‘After reconnecting with her old friend Scott, Mae is adamant that looking backwards will do her no good. She ditches rehab, flees her parents and jumps on a flight back to England to win George back.’

Feel Good arrives Friday June 4 on Netflix.
