I’ve made £20k renting out my clothes, I’m a shopaholic & it’s an easy way to pay for more outfits
IF you’ve got a flare for fashion it’s certainly tempting to shop up a storm and fill your wardrobe will all of the latest trends.
This is the case for one woman, an accountant from Australia, who admits that she’s a “shopaholic” and splashes her cash on expensive designer pieces.

But realising she has an enviable wardrobe filled with Australian designer labels including Zimmermann, Alice McCall and Bec & Bridge, Bella Burgio now makes money on the side by renting out her outfits.
In fact, 31-one-year old from Perth, Western Australia has so far made $35,000 (£20,000) by listing her pre-loved pieces on a dress hire platform, The Volte.
The Volte is available to residents within Australia and allows them to hire an outfit for a fraction of the cost – and they send it back after they’ve worn it.
Bella earns roughly $60-$70 (£32-38) per outfit, totalling around $1,200 (£657) a month, which she then uses to buy more designer clothes.

“I’m a shopaholic and it funds my wardrobe. I spend no normal income on shopping,” she told Daily Mail Australia.
“People rent because they want statement pieces they can’t justify buying for only one occasion.”
The fashion-obsessed woman has been renting out her clothes since 2017, with little to no effort.
She said she was inspired to start her side gig after seeing a rise in women renting designer outfits for special occasion, Mail Online reports, rather than splurging and paying full price.

Bella currently has 147 pieces available for hire, mostly from Australian fashion labels, which people can rent for four or eight day stints.
While the eight day package used to be the most popular when women would hire clothes to take on holiday, the pandemic and travel ban in Australia meant this was no longer an option.
Bella said her clients include a wide age range of women, from high school girls to women looking for wedding or bachelorette outfits.
Her clothes are suitable for a range of corporate events too.

The types of clothes listed on the site ranges from cute floral frocks to more formal designs – and there’s no doubt something for everyone.
Although Bella covers dry cleaning costs and pays The Volte a small fee to list her items, she’s still able to make a profit on each of her outfits.
The savvy fashionista said it’s “definitely worth it” and making a small fortune back on her designer clothes is “peace of mind for me and my wardrobe”.
