Is a Han Solo Star Wars TV series coming to Disney Plus? Disney CEO fuels speculation
The CEO of Disney has fuelled speculation that a Han Solo Star Wars TV series could be in the works for Disney Plus.
When western The Mandalorian premiered in 2019, it marked the first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise, propelling the popularity of Disney Plus, which had only just launched.
Several other live-action Star Wars shows are now on the way, including the third season of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Ewan McGregor reprising his role from the prequel trilogy.
Harrison Ford portrayed smuggler Han in the original Star Wars trilogy, returning in the sequel trilogy, where he met his demise at the hands of his son, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
A younger version of the character was depicted by Alden Ehrenreich in the 2018 anthology film Solo: A Star Wars Story, which showed the moment that Han met his co-pilot Chewbacca for the first time.
During a virtual Q&A at the JP Morgan Global Technology, Media and Communications Conference on Monday, Bob Chapek, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, was listing off upcoming Disney Plus projects – which is when he let slip a mention of Han Solo.
‘In the end, as you know, in entertainment, it really is all about content. I think over the next, basically by the end of the year we’ve got six Marvel titles,’ he began.
‘We’ve got Black Widow, we’ve got Shang-Chi, we’ve got Loki, we’ve got Hawkeye, we’ve got Ms. Marvel. We’ve got What If….?. All these great series coming to Disney Plus.’
He then said: ‘We’ve got Han Solo, or I mean Boba Fett, from Star Wars. Boba Fett from Star Wars, and we’ve got Monsters at Work from Pixar.’
So, either Bob made a genuine error and accidentally said Han Solo when he meant to say Boba Fett… or he mistakenly revealed yet another exciting Star Wars show in the pipeline.
Several Star Wars fans have already expressed their desire for Han’s story to continue in a Disney Plus series.
‘We all know Han is a great pilot. But Solo: A Star Wars Story was a great Pilot Episode of sorts for an eventual Disney Plus series. Let’s #MakeSolo2Happen and continue the “series”,’ one person tweeted.
‘Just finished #Solo A Star Wars Story again for the, well I’ve lost track of the times. It always makes me smile even when I’m down,’ someone else wrote in July last year.
‘The Adventures of Han Solo will always make me smile, and keep me coming back. C’mon @disneyplus #MakeSolo2Happen in a series!’
Even if there are no fixed plans for a Han Solo series as of yet… there definitely seems to be high demand for it.
