“Would Take us 3 Hours”: Coach Goran Ivanisevic on Explaining What Separates Novak Djokovic From Others

World No.1 Novak Djokovic is about to begin his ATP Belgrade 2021 campaign soon. The event is a lead-up tournament to the French Open and Djokovic will look to get some more practice on clay before he sets off on his quest for his second Major on the surface. He is the top-seeded player at Roland Garros and can prove to be a big threat to Rafael Nadal this year.

In a recent interview, Djokovic’s coach Goran Ivanisevic highlighted the major attributes of the Serbian legend. He mentioned that there a number of things that separate Djoker from the rest of the players. He also stated that he gets to learn many things from him and he never gets bored when he is around him.

“It would take us 3 hours to talk about what separates Djokovic from others. He is special, a genius, a perfectionist. He always pushes you to do better, it is never boring with him,” said Ivanisevic in the interview.

The coach even called Djokovic ‘a a perfectionist’. He has been coaching Djokovic since 2019 and has won 2 Grand Slam titles with him to date.

Despite praising him a lot, Ivanisevic disclosed a major flaw in Djokovic’s character that he would like him to change. He claimed that the 18-time Grand Slam champion is not at all punctual but now he has adjusted to Djoker’s habit of getting late.

“It’s like he’s in a permanent brawl with the clock. I don’t think he made it on time once in his life. He knows it too, but can’t change it. We’re already used to it,” added the coach.

Apart from talking about his pupil, Djokovic, Ivanisevic also spoke about himself in the interview. He revealed the name of the toughest player he ever faced on the court. It is none other than the 14-time Grand Slam winner, Pete Sampras.

“Sampras. He is a man who has destroyed a lot of lives, dreams, and nerves. I can’t forgive him (laughingly),” answered the 49-year-old Croatian player.

As far as Djokovic is concerned, he’ll play his first match against Mats Moraing at the ATP Belgrade 2021 today. The 34-year-old will surely like to take some momentum ahead of the French Open 2021 and for that, the ATP Belgrade 2021 might just be the perfect tournament for him.

Will Djokovic be able to stop Rafael Nadal and conquer Paris for the second time this year?
