Blizzard BlizzCon 2021 Suffers the Same Tragic Fate That It Did in 2020

BlizzCon is Blizzard Entertainment’s annual fan convention which showcases some of the developers’ upcoming games. Not only do fans get the inside scoop on new games and updates but also enjoy fun-filled tournaments, Q/A’s, and expert panels. In 2020, the event was canceled due to the gathering restrictions imposed to curb Covid-19. This year, it seems like the fan-favorite convention will suffer the same fate.

In a recent tweet, the e-Sports reporter, Rod Breslau informed fans that “there will be no BlizzCon in 2021. a smaller global event will be held in early 2022.” On the event’s official website, Saralyn Smith, the executive producer of BlizzCon, explained the challenges involved in hosting an in-person event.

She explained, “building an in-person BlizzCon is an epic and complex affair that takes many months of preparation—not just for us, but also for the many talented production partners, esports pros, hosts, entertainers, artists, and other collaborators we team up with locally and globally to put all of the pieces together.”

Furthermore, she added that “The ongoing complexities and uncertainties of the pandemic have impacted our ability to properly move forward on many of these fronts, and ultimately we’re now past the point where we’d be able to develop the kind of event we’d want to create for you in November.”

What to look forward to from Blizzard Entertainment

Despite the fact that BlizzCon 2021 will not be a physical event, there is still much to look forward to. The sequel to Blizzard’s Overwatch is one of the most hyped games this year. They have already showcased new ‘dynamic maps’ and the addition of player versus environment game modes.

While Blizzard has confirmed that we will not see Diablo 4 in 2021, there is no reason that we will not receive an update on the game’s progress. In addition to this, we could also receive updates for their biggest game, World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic.
