Unlike Bill Haney, very little is known about Devin Haney’s mother, April Clay. According to Live RampUp, Clay and Bill Haney separated when Devin Haney was born. However, they remained in touch and have always supported their son’s boxing career.

In 2019, the media spotted April Clay in Haney’s green room after the boxer defeated Xolisani Ndongeni for the WBC (International) and WBC (Intercontinental) 135 lbs titles.

The proud mother tagged him as a “bad boy.” She also hailed Haney’s surrounding team, including Bill Haney, for the success.

Meanwhile, ‘The Dream’ has won four more fights since then, adding the WBC world lightweight to his name.

Devin Haney’s Amateur Career

Haney is a young boxer who won seven national championships as an amateur. He turned pro at the age of 17 after losing two fights to Ryan Garcia. Haney won two battles against Garcia but lost two more.

According to Wikipedia, as an amateur, Haney won seven National titles. In January 2015, aged 17, he became the youngest boxer to win the Youth World Championships in Reno.

He had an amateur record of 138–8 bouts before turning professional in 2015 at 17. Out of those eight losses, two are from his now rival Ryan Garcia in the amateurs. The two have fought four times, both having won twice.

Devin Haney’s Professional career

Haney was born in 1983 and turned pro at the age of 17.

• He fought in Mexico and lost his first four fights.
• As a professional fighter, he won the WBC youth title, IBF USBA, IBF North America, WBC international, WBO Intercontinental, and WBA international lightweight titles.
• Haney fought twice in 2018. He won both fights by knockout. In 2019 he fought once. He beat his opponent by KO in ten rounds.
• Haney signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing. He was matched up against Antonio Moran. He knocked out Antonio Moran in round seven. He won the vacant WBC Interim Lightweight Title.

Devin Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, blocked him from traveling to Australia for George Kambosos Jr fight as his visa got DENIED due to a year old drug conviction.

Another fighter will likely replace Devin Haney for the biggest fight of this year. His father and the head coach were convicted of drug charges in 1992. He must stay away from his son’s fights.

Bill could not travel to Las Vegas because he had an invalid visa. He stayed behind in Oakland instead.

Devin Haney is set to fight George Kambosos in a lightweight unification bout. He will have to fight without the support of his father and trainer, Bill Haney, who has a 1992 felony drug conviction preventing him from entering Australia.

Bill Haney needs a visa to come to Australia. He does not want to go there because he knows that Devin Haney will be waiting for him. Devin Haney wants to fight George Kambosos, but he doesn’t know how to get a visa. Bill Haney says that Devin Haney and George Kambois will meet again in Melbourne, Australia. This fight will unify the four belts held by Kambois with Haney’s WBC Lightweight Title.
